Sony, as expected, turned up to E3 2016 press conference guns blazing. If there was any kind of doubt they may not ‘bring it’ this year, their opening game was enough to shut the haters up like a swing to the face from Krato’s Battle axe!!
Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios hosted the party accompanied by a live orchestra, and these are just a few of the titles they premiered that we got just a LITTLE bit excited about…
GOD OF WAR 4 was their opening game and WOW… Does it look EPIC! They spoke about how they wanted to re-imagine the gameplay while still moving the story and the mythology forward. Little is known about the story line, and the developers were deffo keeping their cards close to their chest in regards to spoilers, and I dont see his wings, or even his scar on his eye – but I am positive we can rest assured that the franchise is still in very good hands, and we can’t wait for the release date!
Although fans are 50/50 about the state of the new ‘Call of Duty’ games, we can all agree that their remastered ‘Modern Warfare’ game is going to be FIRE, and hearing the original theme tune played by the live orchestra alongside some exclusive footage kept us more excited than ever for this amazing remake of one of the greatest first person shooters ever made.
‘Resident Evil Bio Hazard’ was one of the biggest shocks of the night. When they said they were making a new Resident Evil, this is definitely not what we had in mind, however it will be interesting to see how they utilize this new VR technology they keep banging on about with some ‘Silent Hill P.T’ style game-play to take the Resident Evil franchise in a whole new direction.
I can’t help but wish they would go back to the original fixed camera angle style format for these games though, as no matter how good they look on the outside, they never actually feel like a Resident Evil game anymore, and being one of my favorite franchises of all time, I hate to feel so distant from them. However, I am still hopeful that the digital remasters of the original trilogy that we keep hearing about will soon come to light and be the proper Resident Evil games that I am so anxiously awaiting for!
SPIDER MAN… SPIDER MAN….FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDERMAN!
That’s right, Sony announced a new awesome looking brand spanking new game featuring the most iconic super hero in the world – the web-slinging wall crawler Spiderman in all his MCU looking suited up glory!
Marvel and Insomniac Games have teamed up to create ‘SPIDER-MAN PS4’ (working title) which at first glance seems reminiscent of the original Playstation one games, but at the same time bringing new style game play and dynamics with an outstanding looking suit, which I HOPE is at least similar to the one we see in ‘Spiderman Homecoming’, because in my opinion it fuckin’ rocks!
Rumors have it that this is not no rookie Spiderman like in the movies however, and that the Peter Parker featured in this game is much more seasoned and experienced, and is more than accustomed to taking out both common criminals to big time super villains alike. I guess we will have to wait and see! Either way, this is one I personally cannot wait to play :D
Hideo kojima also announced his second solo game creating venture since ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’, in the form of a brand new crazy looking little number called ‘DEATH STRANDING’ starring Walking Dead favorite Norman Reedus.
Dead Babies turning into oil, 5 mysterious floating figures in the sky, a desolate beach riddled with dead crabs and fish… What does this all mean?! I guess we will have to wait to find out!
Either way the game looks stunning, and if his previous work is anything to go by, this game will defiantly be one to look out for.
Another interesting one that was announced tonight was ‘DETROIT: Becoming Human’ a fresh new game that looked like a mix between LA Noir and Blade Runner?!
I say LA Noir because of the style of the game-play were many different scenarios can play out from a single scene depending on what actions you choose, this one deffo looked intriguing…
Finally…. This was easily the one I am now most looking forward to:
‘DAYS GONE’ looks like a cross between ‘The lost and the damned’ and ‘The Last Of Us’ with a bit of ‘World War Z’ just nudged in there for good measure.
Although I am honestly not only tired of zombie games, but pretty much the whole new age zombie genre in general (with exceptions of corse… *Cough cough* The Walking Dead) it seems this new game looks fresh and inventive, and bringing in the whole biker club element will give us a cool new angle on the genre. The game-play did come across a little sluggish… however its easily forgiven with the amount of zombies we see on screen at any one time, and the floods of hoarding undead combined with the beautiful looking ‘3rd person’ style game-play made for a pleasure to watch. I can’t wait to see more!
Honorable mentions also go out ‘Horizon’ Which has been on our radar for a while. Who doesn’t like hot red-head warrior women fighting post apocalyptic Robot Dinosaurs? ‘Star Wars Battlefront, X-Wing VR Mission’ looked great from what little they showed us and of course a digital remaster of the first three ‘Crash Bandicoot games’ were also a nice little cherry on top of what was an unbelievable 2016 presentation!!
Overall a very promising line-up. Well done Sony, we salute you :D
